Microsoft 365 is a subscription-based family of productivity software, collaboration and cloud-based services from Microsoft, and it is available in the Philippines. To use apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive and Teams, you need to register with a Microsoft account. You can start with the free web versions or pick a paid plan: Basic, Personal or Family. Registration is quick and done fully online. The process is the same whether you use a PC, Mac, iOS or Android device.
How to Register for Microsoft 365

M365 registration takes only a few minutes. You create a Microsoft account first, then attach a plan or a trial to it. Follow these steps:
- Go to the official Microsoft 365 website at www.microsoft.com.
- Click "Sign up" or "Buy now" on the plan you want.
- Choose a plan (see the options below).
- Create a Microsoft account using an email address, a phone number or an existing social account.
- Enter your payment details if you selected a paid plan, or choose the free trial (1 month free).
- Confirm your email address or phone number.
- Download the apps to your device, or use the web versions in your browser.
These are the plans you can pick from:
If you only need basic document editing, you do not have to subscribe. Free web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint are available with just a Microsoft account. You can upgrade to a paid plan later from the same account.
Choose the yearly option if you plan to use Microsoft 365 long term. Choose monthly billing if you want flexibility or are still testing the apps.
Registration Requirements for Microsoft 365

Before you start, check that you have everything below ready:
- A valid email address or phone number.
- A device with internet access: PC, Mac, iOS or Android.
- A Microsoft account (you can create one during sign-up).
- For paid plans, a valid payment method such as a credit card, PayPal or another option supported at checkout.
- You must be at least 13 years old, or have parental consent.
- For the Family plan, the primary account holder must be an adult. That person can then share the plan with up to 6 people.
Enter accurate details when you register. Your email and phone number are used to verify your identity and recover your account if you lose access. Wrong or outdated details make recovery much harder.
How to Create a Strong Password for Your Microsoft Account

Your Microsoft account password protects your files, emails and payment details. A weak password puts all of them at risk. Use these tips:
- Use at least 12 characters.
- Mix uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols.
- Avoid personal information like birthdays, names or your address.
- Avoid common words or phrases such as "password" or "123456".
- Consider a passphrase: several random words joined together, like "Mango-Jeepney-Rain-42".
- Do not reuse passwords from other sites.
- Enable two-step verification for extra security.
Store your password securely. A password manager can generate and save strong passwords for you, so you don't have to remember each one or write it down.
How to Verify Your Microsoft 365 Account

Verification is part of the registration process. It confirms that the email or phone number belongs to you. Follow these steps:
- After you create your account, Microsoft sends a verification code to your email or phone.
- Enter the code on the verification page.
- If you don't receive the code, check your spam or junk folder. You can also request a new code.
- Once verified, you can access all Microsoft 365 services linked to your account.
Verification also helps secure your account. If you forget your password later, Microsoft uses the same verified email or phone to send recovery codes. Keep these contact details up to date.
How to Register for Microsoft 365 on Mobile
You can register directly from your phone or tablet. Microsoft 365 works on both iOS and Android. Follow these steps:
- Download the Microsoft 365 app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
- Open the app and tap "Sign up" or "Get started".
- Create a Microsoft account, or sign in with an existing one.
- Choose a plan or start the free trial.
- Complete payment if your plan requires it.
- Start using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneDrive on your mobile device.
The app also includes Copilot, an AI assistant that can help you draft text, summarise documents and work with your files. You can learn more about how Microsoft 365 Copilot works before you rely on it for daily tasks.
Your account is the same on every device. A plan you start on mobile also works on your PC or Mac when you sign in there.
How to Log In to Microsoft 365
After you register, logging in is simple. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 website or open the app.
- Click "Sign in".
- Enter the email, phone number or Skype ID linked to your Microsoft account.
- Enter your password.
- If two-step verification is on, enter the code sent to your device.
- You are taken to your Microsoft 365 dashboard.
On trusted devices, you can choose to stay signed in so you don't need to enter your details each time. Avoid this on shared or public computers. If you run into sign-in errors, check the full guide on how to log in to Microsoft 365.
How to Get the Microsoft 365 Free Trial
Microsoft offers a free 1-month trial for new subscribers. It lets you test the full apps before you pay. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 website.
- Choose a plan: Personal or Family.
- Click "Try free for 1 month".
- Create a Microsoft account or sign in to your existing one.

Note for students: college students with a valid school email may get Microsoft 365 for free. The offer gives 3 months free, then $5/month. Sign up with your school email to check if you qualify.
How to Make Your First Payment for Microsoft 365
You can pay for a plan straight from your Microsoft account. Follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Go to "Services & subscriptions".
- Select the plan you want to purchase.
- Choose a payment method: credit card, PayPal or another option supported at checkout.
- Enter your billing details.
- Confirm the purchase.
| Plan | Yearly price | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Basic | $19.99/year | Not listed |
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $99.99/year | $9.99/month |
| Microsoft 365 Family | $129.99/year | $12.99/month |
Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it. After payment, you can install the Microsoft 365 Office apps on your devices. Check your billing date in "Services & subscriptions" so the renewal does not catch you off guard.
How to Recover Your Microsoft Account
If you forget your password or can't sign in, you can reset it in a few minutes. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page.
- Click "Forgot password?".
- Enter your email, phone number or Skype ID.
- Choose a verification method: email, phone or authenticator app.
- Enter the security code you receive.
- Create a new password.
- Sign in with the new password.
If you have two-step verification turned on, you may need to give additional proof before the reset goes through. Keep your recovery email and phone number current so the codes reach you.
Common Microsoft 365 Registration Problems
Registration usually goes smoothly, but a few issues come up often. Most of them relate to your contact details, your payment method or an existing account. The fixes below are simple, and you can usually solve them yourself in a few minutes without contacting support.
Invalid Email or Phone Number
During sign-up, Microsoft sends a verification code to your email or phone. If the address or number is invalid, the code never arrives and verification fails.
Verification also fails if the contact is already linked to another Microsoft account. Check for typos first, and make sure your phone number includes the correct country code. Then use a working email or phone number that is not already associated with a Microsoft account.
Payment Declined
A payment can be declined for several reasons:
- Insufficient funds in your account.
- Incorrect card or billing details.
- Restrictions set by your bank, such as blocks on online or international transactions.
Check your payment information carefully and try again. If it still fails, try a different payment method, such as PayPal instead of a card. You can also contact your bank and ask them to allow the transaction.
Account Already Exists
If you try to register with an email or phone number already linked to a Microsoft account, you will be asked to sign in instead. This often happens if you created an account years ago for Outlook, Skype or another Microsoft service.
You don't need a new account. Recover the existing one with the password reset process described above. Once you sign in, you can add a Microsoft 365 plan or trial to that account.
How to Cancel or Delete Your Microsoft 365 Subscription
You can cancel your subscription online at any time. Follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Go to "Services & subscriptions".
- Find your Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Click "Manage", then "Cancel subscription".
- Follow the prompts to confirm the cancellation.
You keep access to your plan until the end of the current billing period. After that, the subscription stops renewing.
Be aware that this removes access to all Microsoft services, not just Microsoft 365. Save any files you need from OneDrive and emails from Outlook before you close the account.
